Fashionable Comfort: Do They Really Exist?

Actually the title was derived from my morning conversation with my best friend Trish, who happens to be in a very uncomfortable stage right now as she’s 8 months pregnant and looks like she’s about to pop anytime.

So the story was, Trish is downright fed up of being too pregnant to wear cute stuff.? I pointed some good maternity clothing shops, but she was bored.? She wanted to wear her high heels, mini dress and dye her hair in five colors like she used to.? See, this girl is anything but me, fashionwise.? Trish loves bright neon colors, and her definition of sexy clothes is tight, short and revealing.? Unlike me, she has no fear of heights as her shoes tower up to my chin.

Me?? I usually go for the loose-fitting, hippie-style clothing.? If I were pregnant, I’d stay preggers forever because then I won’t have to wear that little black dress Mr. BF loves so much.? I’ll do fine with my vintage Morrocan caftans and flat leather sandals.

Trish says generally I’ve got personal style.? “A hip hippie in the city” that’s what she likes to call me.? But she was totally silent when this morning I suddenly blurted out this question to her:

“Do you think I’m fashionable?”

After a brutal silence, she went, “You have your style, dear.? But no offense, you sometimes care a tad too little about fashion.”

I looked at her bunny slippers, beat-up night gown and striped pajamas and went, “Really?”

And she began to say that fashion knows no comfort.? I want to say otherwise, but her points are somewhat valid.? Fashion means starving yourself two days before you wear that tighter-than-thou dress, while comfort means empire-waisted dresses that allow you to eat heaps of dessert in a function.? Fashion means sexy stilletos, while comfort means boring flats.

Now based on those thoughts, I’m throwing this question into the blogosphere:

Which one is more fashionable, this Christian Lacroix *ahem* high-heeled boots?

Ugly Boots!

or this comfy Dior flat?

This is sexy!

I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but really, sometimes it’s better to pretend to be blind when it comes to fashion and live with Coco Chanel’s quote:

Fashion fades, but style remains.

So what do you guys think?
